For me, Redsn0w comes into mind when the talk is jailbreaking. However, those who are tracking the status of iOS jailbreak from the last couple of years would know that Redsn0w is slowly getting limited in new-age devices. The tool doesn’t support an untethered jailbreak post- iOS 5.1.1 and the tethered option available in iOS 6.0-6.1.6 are restricted to iPhone 4 and 3GS. Thankfully, we have a lot of Redsn0w alternatives out there, which even operates jailbreak on the recent Apple devices like iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, 5S and the iPhone Special edition, up-to iOS 10.2.
Latest jailbreak tools in 2017
The main objective of jailbreaking as we all know is to bring a third-party app store Cydia to iPhone and iPad. Although many of the Cydia tweaks are now available in core iOS, the community is still popular among a few tech-savy users.
Nowadays, most of the iOS jailbreak rely on Cydia Impactor application by Saurik, to sign and load jailbreak tools and apps to iOS devices. Download Cydia Impactor latest version for Mac, Windows and Linux.
Let’s see which all iOS versions and iPhones are jailbreak-friendly in 2017.
Download Yalu jailbreak for iOS 10:Yalu is the newest jailbreak tool out there, intended for iOS 10 up-to 10.2, on all 64- bit iPhones like 6S, 6, SE and 5S. Yalu is not compatible with iPhone 7 on any iOS versions. Yalu works like an iPhone app (IPA file) for iOS 10. You may install this .IPA file on supported iPhones using the Cydia Impactor program for Mac, Windows and Linux. After setting-p Cydia Impactor on your desktop you may self-sign the IPA file to install Yalu on your phone. This self-signing process activates Yalu on the iPhone for seven days. Upon installation, you will see the Yalu Icon on your phone. Just click on it to jailbreak your device in the tethered mode.
The Yalu jailbreak has some limitations. The main one is that you have to re-install and sign Yalu using Cydia Impactor in every seven days. Watch the following video tutorial to see how Yalu works jailbreak on iOS 10. Download Yalu jailbreak.
Download Pangu/Phoenixpwn Jailbreak for iOS 9: Pangu is a Chinese iOS jailbreak tool compatible with almost all iOS 9 variants. However, Pangu supports only 64-bit devices (iPhone 5S to 6S plus) on iOS 9.1, 9.2 and 9.33. Just like the Yalu jailbreak, the Pangu tool for iOS 9.3.3 needs Cydia Impactor to sign and install the Pangu IPA file which works for 7 days. Download Pangu IPA for iOS 9.3.3.
An Alternative for Pangu Jailbreak on iOS 9 for 32-bit devices is Phoenixpwn. The phoenixpwn works on devices like iPhone 5S and iPhone 4S for the most latest iOS 9 version 9.3.5. Just download the app and install it using the Impactor for a tethered jailbreak.
Download EtasonJB for iOS 8 untethered jailbreak
It is possible to jailbreak the last version of iOS 8, specially the 8.4.1 untethered using EtasonJB jailbreak. EtasonJB works on 32-bit models such as iPhone 5, 4S, etc. For this also you need to download the Cydia Impactor. Get it from the links at the top. Since the jailbreak achieved is untethered, restarts are not going to affect your device’s jailbroken status. Download EtasonJB
Download Sn0wbreeze jailbreak
Sn0wbreeze is a time-tested Windows only jailbreak tool for iOS, which is equally famous as the Redsn0w. When used, Sn0wbreeze generates a custom, jailbreak-injected IPSW file for a given iOS input, and the user can restore it via iTunes to their device and get it in a jailbroken state. Sn0wbreeze also includes a module called iFaith which enables saving and restoring an iPhone’s SHSH blobs for a particular iOS version. Having the SHSH Blobs in hand is a prerequisite if someone wants to downgrade their iPhone to a jailbreak supported iOS variant.
The latest version of Sn0wbreeze supports iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 4. Unlike Redsn0w, Sn0wbreeze provides an untethered jailbreak on all above-mentioned devices running iOS 6 up-to 6.1.2, and a tethered jailbreak on 6.1.3. Sn0wbreeze is widely recommended over Redsn0w as the best jailbreak up-to 6.0-6.1.2 for obvious reasons.

Download Evasi0n for iOS 6.0/7.0.
First released in the second month of 2013, Evasi0n is the most comprehensive iOS jailbreak tool available today. Evasi0n is a multi-platform software, which works on the three well-liked operating systems, Windows, Mac and Linux. There is nothing left when you take the Evasi0n compatibility chart for iOS devices. Evasi0n can easily jailbreak iPhone 5, 5S, 5C, iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS, iPad mini, iPad 2,3 4, new iPod Touches, etc. untethered, all on iOS 6 up-to iOS 6.1.2, and on iOS 7 up-to 7.0.6. The good thing about Evasi0n is that its relatively easy to use when compared with Redsn0w and Snowbreeze. With Evasi0n in place, you don’t need to download iOS IPSW files separately, take the device into DFU mode, go through all the options and hit the jailbreak button; It’s simple and does what it is advertised for.
NB: The password of the zip file is evasi0n.
Download Posixspwn for iOS 6.1.6
Posixspwn was initially available in Cydia as a package for converting the tethered iOS 6.1.3/6.1.6 jailbreak to an untethered one. Those who already jailbroken their iPhone running iOS 6.1.3/6.1.6 using Redsn0w can download P0sixspwn from Cydia, jailbreak it untethered and at same time can keep the benefit of hactivation, if any, in iPhone 4 and 3GS. That was the old story: recently Posixspwn developers have released a standalone version of this tool as an executable for Mac and Windows. Posixspwn extends the iOS 6.1.6 untethered jailbreak to iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, and has an interface very similar to the Evasi0n; therefore, it is far better than Redns0w ( 4, 3GS only) in terms of operation and compatibility. New iPod Touches (4th gen/5th gen), iPads (2,3,4) and iPod mini are also in the supported list of devices.
Evasi0n/Snowbreeze/Redsn0w/Posixspwn: which is the best for iOS jailbreak?
These four software are cable of doing iOS 6/iOS 7 jailbreaking in some form, but which one should I choose? Well, that depends on your iPhone model, iOS version, Desktop platform, and the requirement.
1. Download Evasi0n if yours is an iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, 5S,5C, 4, 3GS, iPad 2, 3, 4, iPad mini, iPod Touch 4th or 5th gen running iOS 6 up-to 6.1.2/ iOS 7 up-to 7.0.6, and if the requirement is just a jailbreak. Please note that the final iOS 6 build 6.1.6 is a security update and Evasi0n has no support the same.
2. Download Sn0wbreeze if you need an untethered (6.0-6.1.2)/tethered(6.1.3) jailbreak while preserving the unlockable iPhone 4 or 3GS baseband. The Sn0wbreeze is also a good option if you want to downgrade from iOS 6.1.3 to a lower build, provided the necessary SHSH blobs are available. However, we do not recommend Sn0wbreeze on iOS 6 since we have Posixspwn 1.0.8 and Redsn0w 0.9.15b3, which enables 6.1.6 jailbreak in untethered mode.
3. Download Redsn0w if you are using a Mac/Windows and your requirement is to activate an iPhone 4/3GS on iOS 6.0-6.1.3-6.1.6 keeping its baseband the same. Later you can convert the tethered jailbreak achieved through this method to untethered by downloading Posixspwn from Cydia.
4. Download the standalone version of Posixspwn if you want to jailbreak all compatible iOS devices mentioned above on iOS 6.1.6 untethered and if you do not rely on Ultrasn0w based activation.
As of now on 2017, not many are expecting more jailbreak launches for iOS 9/8 as Apple has already released iOS 11. We hope that the hackers would soon find an exploit in iOS 11, and a jailbreak release sometime in 2018.
